Christmas and Scott Reed
We were tired. Tired of chasing our kids and not being able to keep up, tired of feeling depressed because all of our clothes were not fitting, tired of looking in the mirror and being disappointed in ourselves. So in January we said enough is enough! We had been looking at several gyms in the area and didn’t feel like they were the right fit… until we walked into Village Gym. Tasha, who we didn’t know at the time was behind the desk and was so welcoming and friendly. She showed us around the gym, gave us some information and answered all of our questions! We looked at each other and knew this was our chance to step up and do something for ourselves to be better! Better for us and better for our kids! We took the leap and started working out, slowly day by day doing a little bit better, but it still wasn’t enough. We discussed our nutrition and exercise routine with Christy and she gave us so much information to learn from, we had no idea what we were doing was amiss. Then she mentioned personal training… and we took our second leap! After starting personal training with Joe we were astounded with our results and so thankful we made that decision! Between the nutritional advice, the personal training, the classes provided, the encouragement and motivation from EVERY employee, the “Hey how are you today” when you walk in the door and the friendships with the other members of the gym, we would not be where we are today. We are so thankful for everyone at Village Gym and especially Joe and Christy for everything they have helped us accomplish; we would not have made it this far without them. Our before and now pictures and results: Combined total pounds lost since January: 81 lbs!
Larry Beck, a grandfather of two, has been heading out to the gym for 5 years now; but he’s been exercising regularly for over 20 years. He says working out at the gym with a trainer literally saved his life the spring of 2011. Despite eating clean and working out regularly, he discovered he had coronary artery disease. Several hours after angioplasty and two stents, he flat lined and a code blue was called. Larry’s cardiologist told him if it wasn’t for the cardio and strength training, he very well may not have survived. Larry also credits a speedier recovery because of his physical condition. How does he stay motivated? Larry says he just doesn’t feel right when he skips his workouts!
Five years ago I decided I had to make a change. My weight peaked at 205 lbs. I looked at pictures of myself and realized that I didn’t want to be that person any longer. I took up the challenge to lose the weight, but I never in my wildest dreams think I would have come this far.
I did everything that any exercise guru will tell you that you need to do if you want to lose weight. I evaluated what I was eating and recorded everything. I changed my diet, making substitutions for all the bad choices. I started running (hadn’t run since 5th grade), and got a personal trainer for strength training and some additional accountability. I started to have success and everything has just evolved from there.
I have truly embraced the running; having run multiple half marathons and three full marathons under my belt. I also love the feeling I get from strength training. Girls shouldn’t be afraid of the weight room 🙂
To say it is easy; it wasn’t but little steps can reap great rewards. You just have to make a commitment to make a change and try. I’ve been working out at The Village Gym just about all five years. The facility is a great environment to work out and the faculty has always been helpful and encouraging!!
Congratulations to Regena Goldhar on her recent weight loss! Regena began training with our very own Lindsay Southern on January 14, 2015 and has lost 23 lbs so far. Keep up the great work Regena!!!
Dear Joe and Christy,
I just want to thank you for your gym. It has tremendously changed my life. My friend Nyka Brown invited me to workout with her at your gym. From the first time I walked in I felt very comfortable. Joe reviewed all the equipment with me and gave me some advice about toning. My friend Nyka gave me a 30 day membership as a gift. After the 30 days, I was hooked and decided to sign up for a membership. I’m a single mom of 4 children from 6 yrs old-15 yrs old. I work full time 3rd shift. I thought I wouldn’t be able to workout at a gym because I was always so tired after my kids went to school. But through determination and motivation from my friend Nyka, I am able to do it. I workout 5 mornings a week for one hour doing circuit training (cardiovascular and weight lifting) and abs. I’ve managed to lose 14 lbs and went down a dress size in 6 weeks. Eating right also played a major part in my weight loss. No more sodas, cookies or cakes, or veggies in a can (V8). I drink water, water and more water. I feel better than I did 6 weeks ago. I have more energy; I feel younger. I’m now an official member of the gym and this has been one of my greatest investments.
